How the Light-Duty Precision Chiller Works
The refrigeration circuit
A rotary compressor on the two smaller models and a scroll compressor on the GKS2200B-V, with a finned-tube air-cooled condenser and R-410A refrigerant.
Temperature control
Hot-gas bypass holds water temperature to ±1.0 °C. Gem Orion describes this as its own refrigerant control method; the practical effect is that a small chiller on a small, intermittent load does not hunt around the set-point the way a simple on/off machine does.
Built-in tank
Each model carries its own water tank, so the thermal mass needed to ride out short load spikes is part of the machine rather than something you add downstream.
Benefits
Compact enough to sit beside the machine
The GKS750B-V is 680×695×533 mm and approximately 57 kg — a single-machine chiller that does not need a plant room.
Single-phase on the smaller models
GKS750B-V and GKS1500B-V run on 1-phase 230 V ±5%, so no three-phase drop is required.
Japanese-standard build at an Indian price point
Manufactured in India to the joint venture’s standard, which is what shortens lead times against an imported equivalent.
±1 °C on a small budget
Precision control is normally the first thing to disappear at the compact end of the market. It has not here.
Wide flow range
8 to 80 L/min on the two smaller models, 30 to 70 L/min on the GKS2200B-V.
Optional Configurations
Capacity ranges from 1.8 – 8.7 kW across three models (GKS750B-V, GKS1500B-V, GKS2200B-V). Beyond the standard build, the following are available:
- RS485 smart remote communication can be enabled as per customer needs.
- Where a duty needs deionised water handling, conductivity monitoring or dual-circuit operation, those features live on the Dual Channel series rather than this one — discuss the application with our engineers before ordering.
Where the GKS Series Is Used
The GKS catalogue lists an unusually specific application set for a compact chiller, and it is worth reading before assuming this is a general-purpose machine. Named applications include sputtering equipment, deposition equipment, vacuum reflow ovens, marking equipment, photolithography equipment, turbomolecular pumps, dispensers, electron microscopes (SEM and TEM), gas chromatographs, magnetizing equipment, EB equipment, printing equipment, bag manufacturing equipment, mills, grinding machines and textile machinery.
Application detail: electronics manufacturing · printing equipment · machine tools · analytical and medical instruments.
Selecting the Right Model
Six figures decide the selection: the heat your process actually rejects (in kW or
TR, not the machine’s connected motor rating), the water temperature you need,
the highest ambient your plant room reaches in summer, the control accuracy the
process requires, the flow rate and pipe size, and the fluid in the circuit. Our
chiller selection guide works through each of
them with the published figures for every series, and
air cooled vs water cooled chillers
covers the heat-rejection decision.
If you do not know your heat load — most people do not — send us the
machine details instead and our engineers will work it back for you.
Installation & Siting Requirements
The points below are the site conditions the published specification assumes. They are not a substitute for the installation instructions supplied with the unit.
- Even a compact chiller needs a clear air path. Pushed under a bench with no clearance, it recirculates its own discharge.
- Ambient range is 5 – 40 °C — the narrowest in the range, so check the actual summer temperature where the unit will stand.
- Supply is 1-phase 230 V ±5% / 50 Hz for GKS750B-V and GKS1500B-V, 3-phase 400 V ±5% / 50 Hz for GKS2200B-V. Voltage imbalance within ±2%.
- Ports are BSP 3/4" on the two smaller models and BSP 1" on the GKS2200B-V. Operating pressure runs 0.1 – 0.5 MPa depending on model.
- Published capacity is rated with the room at 38 °C, delivering at least 95% of the listed figure.
- Installation and wiring should be carried out by a qualified professional or your Gem Orion dealer.
Keeping It Running
Gem Orion does not publish a fixed service schedule for this series, and this page
will not invent one — intervals depend on duty cycle, water quality and how
dirty the air is where the unit stands. Your Gem Orion dealer or
our service team will set a schedule for your installation.
What follows is what actually costs people capacity in the field.
Condenser cleaning matters more, not less, on a small unit
A compact machine has a small condenser with little margin. It fouls faster and it loses capacity sooner.
Watch the water in the built-in tank
Small tanks concentrate whatever is in the water more quickly than large ones.
Check clearance after any shop-floor reorganisation
These units are small enough to get boxed in by accident.
Note the delivered temperature at commissioning
Having a baseline is what makes later drift obvious.
